Jury Guidelines
Regular Juries take place at the end of most every semester. They consist of a prepared program of three etudes and two solo works. The student will chose the first piece to be performed at the jury. The jury members will then select additional selections from those prepared. This jury is not accompanied. The following must be brought to the jury:
- Three copies of a printed program of the music prepared for the jury. Please use the jury program template.
- Three copies of the saxophone parts of each of your pieces/etudes. PLEASE COLLATE YOUR COPIES; prepare three stapled or clipped packets, one for each jury member. Arrange music in the packet in the order you prefer to perform the pieces; your program should be on top of the packet. You may bring original piano parts to substitute for these copies. Do not copy piano scores. Exception: You do not need to bring copies of Ferling etudes.
The Pre-Professional Jury takes place at the end of four semesters of undergraduate performance study. This jury must be passed in order to continue on to upper division course work. This jury contains all the requirements of the “regular” juries. In addition, the student will sight-read, and give a three- to five-minute oral presentation on a composer or piece of their choosing.
