Recital Guidelines
The recital date should be reserved at the beginning of the year (August) with Dr. Pickeral. Forms for this purpose can be found online and in the front office. Please coordinate your recital date with Dr. Helton and other members of your committee. Consider also the School of Music performance calendar. Juniors may present joint recitals. Graduate students may present recitals in the University Auditorium.
A three-member recital committee must be chosen. Two members should be from the woodwind faculty; one member should be from another area. This committee should be established at the beginning of the semester in which the recital is to be given.
A recital jury must take place at least two weeks prior to the recital date. This jury must be accompanied. The student is responsible for arranging a date and time convenient for all members of the committee to attend.
A printed copy of your program must be submitted to jury members at the recital jury. This program should include formal program copy (movement names, composer dates, etc.), as well as program notes on each piece. The program should include the following wording:
- This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree ______________. Student Name is from the studio of Dr. Jonathan Helton.
Length of recital: Junior recital: 30-45 minutes of music. Senior and Graduate recitals: 45 to 60 minutes of music.
